Making Jesus your savior is the most important decision you’ll ever make. It will cost you in the here and now, but you will gain eternal life by doing so!

Thousands of years ago, the first humans ever created rebelled against God when Satan deceived them. As a result of their sin, God was forced to kick them out of the Garden of Eden and curse the entire world and everything in it. This event has been termed the Fall of Man, and nothing has been the same since. Sin continues leaves its mark in today’s world in the form of suffering, sorrow, injustice, and evil.

Because of the depth to which sin exists in our world, nobody is immune to its effects. In fact, there isn’t a single person on the face of the earth who is without sin. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 goes on to tell us that “…the wages of sin is death.”

If we cannot somehow be healed of our sin, we will die. And this “death” won’t be a mere physical death (though that will happen as well), but rather a spiritual death in which a person is forever separated from God and from all things good. Those who die in their sins will be punished for those sins.

By the grace of God, however, we are not without hope, for our loving Father sent His one and only Son to die for us.

The Miracle of Jesus Christ

Two thousand years ago, Jesus Christ came to earth to take away the sins of man. He was both fully man and fully God, and was the only human in history to live a blameless and sinless life. As it was written about Him:

"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21).

When Jesus was crucified on the cross, His blood was shed, His body was broken, and His life was taken. He was killed so that we could be saved from our sins and brought into God’s righteousness. He bore the penalty of sin (death) so that we might not have to. Jesus was aptly know as ‘the lamb of God,’ for he was the sin sacrifice which has made it possible for us to be reconciled to God and to have eternal life. In Him is infinite hope and infinite joy!

Receiving the Savior

A locked door will not become unlocked unless one uses the key to unlock it. Likewise, the saving power of Jesus Christ will not come to us unless we receive Him. How do we do this? Romans 10:9-10 gives us the answer.

"If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."

Essentially, there are two main ingredients to salvation: believe with your heart and confess with your mouth. To put it simply, if you believe that Jesus Christ died for your sin and was risen, you can be saved. All you must do is rest in that belief. You need not work for your salvation, for there is nothing you can do to earn God’s favor. One of the most beautiful things regarding God’s plan for our salvation is that we are absolutely powerless to earn it ourselves. Despite the fact that we are dirty and ungodly and stained with darkness in God’s eyes, He loves us enough that He sent His only Son to die so that we could be saved.

Friends, if you have the feeling that something is missing, that something isn’t right, or that something is out of place, I invite you to accept Jesus Christ right now. Bow before the Lord in your sincerity of heart and ask Him to cleanse you. Ask Him to come into your heart. If you believe in Him (or if you feel like you’re just so, so close to believing), then God is drawing you to Him. He’s preparing your heart to receive Christ. Take heed of His word and repent of your sins.

Once you’ve repented, you will notice a change in your heart, and this change may happen immediately or it may happen very gradually. This is where the notion of ‘confess with your mouth‘ from Romans 10:10 comes into play. Verbal confession of your faith is not what saves you – belief is – but once you believe and trust in Christ for your salvation, you will find it difficult to not speak of Christ and His everlasting joy and power. Sooner or later, once you have accepted Jesus, you will begin bearing testimony to His name! Indeed, speaking of our faith isn’t what saves us, but such verbal and lifestyle witnessing is what proves that we are His.

Walking With Him

As your heart changes and your life follows suit, I encourage you to pursue Christ with as much energy as you possibly can. Read the Bible. Attend church. Get connected with other believers. Become involved with ministries. Do everything in your life as though you are doing it for God, because in many ways, you are. He is your master, your Lord, your savior, and your friend. As you draw nearer to Him, He draws nearer to you. As you serve Him, your love for Him will only increase in power and authenticity.

The Christian life is certainly a difficult one, at times full of hardships, difficult choices, and conflicts, but it is infinitely worth it. And someday, when you stand for judgement with Christ as your witness and advocate, you will hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share in your master’s happiness! (Matthew 25:23). Once more, we do not serve God to earn favor with Him, but rather out of our love for who He is and what He’s done.

After all, if anyone deserves a lifetime of adoration and service, it’s Him.
